A calculator for Texas HVAC owners. Three short steps: see how ready your company is to sell, what a buyer might pay, and whether the sale funds the life you want after it.
Buyers of HVAC companies pay more for recurring revenue and a team that runs without the owner. Answer honestly. Nobody sees this but you.

In a free Decision Lab session, we walk through these numbers with you, look at what you would keep after taxes, and map what exiting on your terms looks like.
Book a Decision Lab sessionThis calculator gives a rough, educational estimate based on the answers you enter and general market ranges. It is not an appraisal, a formal business valuation, or tax, legal or investment advice. Actual sale prices depend on buyers, deal terms, timing and many factors a short questionnaire can't capture. Tax estimates assume most of the sale is taxed as a long-term capital gain and are simplified. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions.

The trucks, the techs, the customers. Buyers pay for what keeps running without you.
Private-equity-backed platforms keep buying HVAC and home service companies, and Texas is on their map. That says nothing about what any one company will sell for. It does mean that owners who are prepared, with clean books, recurring revenue and a team that runs without them, tend to have more options when a buyer calls.
One Dallas-headquartered platform, which calls itself America’s largest residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical business, now operates 75 local brands in 46 states. Platforms like it keep looking for their next company.
When a national platform bought a North Texas service company founded in 2004, the company kept its name and its leadership. Selling does not have to mean your name comes off the trucks.
A commercial HVAC platform formed by a private equity firm in February 2025 made a Wylie, Texas mechanical contractor its second acquisition by January 2026. Buyers are moving fast.
Buyers are active. Prepared owners get better options.

You enter one profit number: what the company earns before your own pay, interest, taxes and depreciation. The calculator picks a range of multiples for an HVAC company your size, adjusts it for the kind of work you do, and uses your readiness answers to place you inside that range. The ranges come from published sale data for HVAC businesses and private companies. The sources are listed for our compliance team and available on request.
Two HVAC companies with the same profit can sell for very different prices. Buyers pay more for maintenance agreement revenue, licensed technicians who stay, and an owner who is no longer running calls. They pay less for builder-heavy revenue and an aging fleet. Those are the questions in step 2.
The sale price is not your number. What you keep after taxes and debt is. Texas has no state income tax, so the estimate assumes a federal long-term capital gains rate unless you live elsewhere. Your actual tax depends on how the deal is structured, which is worth planning years before a sale.
