Wealth management for Texas HVAC owners, before and after a sale. The real question is not only what a buyer will pay. It is what you keep, and whether it funds the life you want.
Over the last several years, private-equity-backed platforms have been buying residential and commercial HVAC companies across the country. Some of the largest are based in Dallas-Fort Worth, and they have bought companies here. For a lot of Texas owners, the first conversation about selling starts with an unsolicited call, not a plan.
An offer is rarely just a check. It can include cash at closing, rollover equity in the buyer’s platform, an earnout tied to future results, and an employment agreement that keeps you running the company for a few years. Each piece changes what you actually keep, when you get it, and how it is taxed.
Your company is probably most of your net worth. That makes the sale the biggest financial decision of your life, and the time to plan for it is before the offer arrives.

You built something that runs on trucks, techs and trust. The next step deserves the same care.
Decidedly Wealth Management is a wealth management firm. We do not broker business sales and we do not sell companies. We work on the personal side of your balance sheet, before and after a sale, and alongside the CPA, attorney and transaction advisor you choose.
Put a number on the life you want after HVAC, then see how the business, your real estate and your other assets add up against it. If there is a gap, you find out while there is still time to close it.
Look at an offer in terms of what you keep. Cash at closing, rollover equity and an earnout are not worth the same, and they are not taxed the same. We help you see the difference and bring the right questions to your CPA and attorney.
Turn a lump sum into a plan: how the proceeds are invested, the income they need to produce, and how to manage risk now that your wealth is no longer tied up in one company.
Decide who your wealth should serve, from family to key employees to causes you care about, and work with your estate attorney so the plan is in place before the deal is done.
Most of the money in an exit is made, or lost, in the years before it. Here is how the five key decisions map onto the road from today to life after HVAC.
Our process is built around five decisions. For an HVAC owner, they turn a sale from a transaction into a plan for the rest of your life.
Before you look at an offer, get clear on what matters to you. Some owners want to step away completely. Others want to stay on and run the company for a new owner for a few years. Your values shape which deal is right for you.
Know where you stand today: the business, the building, retirement accounts, debt, and what your life actually costs. You cannot judge an offer until you know what it has to do for you.
What does life after HVAC look like? We help you define it and put a number on it: how much you need to walk away with, after taxes, to fund it.
Close the gap between what the business could bring and what you need. That can mean working on the things buyers pay for, planning with your CPA and attorney ahead of the deal, and building an investment plan for the proceeds.
Family, key employees, your community, the causes you care about. Decide who your wealth should serve, and plan for it early, while more options are open.

Private-equity-backed platforms keep buying HVAC and home service companies, and Texas is on their map. That says nothing about what any one company will sell for. It does mean that owners who are prepared, with clean books, recurring revenue and a team that runs without them, tend to have more options when a buyer calls.
One Dallas-headquartered platform, which calls itself America’s largest residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical business, now operates 75 local brands in 46 states. Platforms like it keep looking for their next company.
When a national platform bought a North Texas service company founded in 2004, the company kept its name and its leadership. Selling does not have to mean your name comes off the trucks.
A commercial HVAC platform formed by a private equity firm in February 2025 made a Wylie, Texas mechanical contractor its second acquisition by January 2026. Buyers are moving fast.
Buyers are active. Prepared owners get better options.
